With an elaborate audio communications system hooked up with a ham radio operator in Johannesburg, several students were able to talk to Olsen. Much of the communication was inaudible, hampered by loud static.
The segment started at 9:35 a.m. and lasted about eight minutes. It was part of an educational forum organized by Space Adventures Ltd. of Arlington, Va., for Olsen to talk with students at three high schools.
