Enter to win a space flight during IKI's 10th anniversary celebration
Lithuanian supermarket chain IKI has partnered with Space Adventures Ltd., the world's leading space tourism company, to launch the search for private individuals to represent Lithuania as the first from their country to fly to space. IKI is offering its customers the chance to win a sub-orbital space flight in a sweepstakes.
Fewer than 500 people have ever left the Earth's atmosphere behind. The Sweepstakes grand prize winner will join this elite group of space explorers as the first Lithuanian in space. Following several days of training, the winner will embark on a sub-orbital flight to an altitude of 100 km or higher in a privately developed spacecraft, where he or she will experience weightlessness, see the Earth from space - and earn "astronaut wings". Sub-orbital flights are expected to launch in 2005.
"IKI has created an incredible opportunity for our customers and the people of Lithuania to literally win an out-of-this-world experience," said IKI Chairman Darius Dagys. "We are delighted to give away this unique prize on IKI's 10th anniversary."
In addition to the space flight, IKI customers can win cash prizes worth a total of 420,000 Lt. (equivalent to 121,640 €). Any client making a purchase of more than 35 Lt (10.14 €) will be automatically entered in the contest. The game begins September 30th, 2002 and is to last up to February 16th, 2003. For more information, rules and restrictions, visit IKI's web site at http://www.iki.lt/en/first.html.
IKI has grown from 1 small shop back in 1992 to become the second largest retailer in Lithuania. IKI Group operates 52 supermarkets under the IKI brand name ("till next time") and 46 hard discount stores under the Pigiau Grybo brand name. IKI Group currently employs more than 4,000 workers. IKI continuously leads in ecological solutions for retail business: IKI was the first in Lithuania to introduce recycling of plastic and cardboard packaging, the first to offer clients environmentally-friendly paper bags instead of the more usual plastic, the first to utilize only ecologically clean trucks that comply with the strictest EU environmental rules.
