To celebrate Hard Rock Cafe's 6th anniversary in the United Arab Emirates, Space Adventures, Ltd. announced today that its offering three seats on a Zero Gravity flight to their loyal patrons. During the month of May, Hard Rock Cafe of Dubai's customers can win a chance to experience total weightlessness. Winners will be announced on June 1, 2004.

"We are delighted to participate in Hard Rock Cafe's 6th anniversary in Dubai. Three lucky winners will have the opportunity to experience what few have before, the total freedom of weightlessness on our Zero-G flight," said Eric Anderson, president and CEO of Space Adventures. "Through these flights and our other programs, we, at Space Adventures, continue the ongoing effort to open the space frontier to private citizens around the world."

Zero Gravity flights are a method of training used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the European Space Agency and the Federal Space Agency of Russia. The flight takes place in the same customized training aircraft (Ilyushin-76 MDK) that is used by astronauts and cosmonauts preparing for space flights to the International Space Station.

The aircraft begins from level flight and pitches up to approximately 45 degree nose-high and wings level. As the airplane flies upward, passengers experience about two times their body weight (or 2 g's). Then, the engines are powered back and the airplane glides over the top of the arch and weightlessness begins. Everyone inside experiences the sensation of floating or flying in the controlled environment of the aircraft.

The airplane is then slowly pulled out of the dive, and when all people are safely on the padded floor, the manoeuvre is repeated. Each parabola requires a block of airspace from approximately 25,000 to 35,000 feet. Passengers obtain close to 30 seconds of micro-gravity during each parabola. There are usually 8 to 12 parabolas in one flight.

Space Adventures, the only U.S. company to have successfully launched private explorers to the International Space Station, is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia with an office in Moscow, Russia. It offers a variety of programs such as Zero Gravity and MiG flights, cosmonaut training, space flight qualification programs and reservations on future sub-orbital spacecrafts. The company's advisory board comprises Apollo 11 moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, shuttle astronauts Kathy Thornton, Robert (Hoot) Gibson, Charles Walker, Norm Thagard, Sam Durrance and Byron Lichtenberg, and Skylab astronaut Owen Garriott.
